Dr. Maggie Gibson grew up in various parts of North Alabama with much of her childhood and adolescence spent in Helena, AL where she attended Pelham High School. Dr. Gibson completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Alabama where she majored in Psychology, minored in Human Development and Family Studies, and was active in several Psychology research labs.
Dr. Gibson later attended North Carolina State University where she completed her Ph.D. in Psychology with a concentration in School Psychology. During her graduate career, Dr. Gibson remained active in research and received clinical training in school-based assessment for special education eligibility and services, clinic-based psychological evaluations, consultation with families and school communities regarding child and adolescent academic and behavioral needs, and group and individual child and adolescent therapy modalities. In addition, Dr. Gibson pursued additional graduate training in the evaluation of and consultation for children and adolescents suspected of having Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Intellectual Disability (ID), and other developmental and behavioral concerns, particularly among rural, underserved populations.
Following her graduate studies, Dr. Gibson completed an American Psychological Association (APA)-accredited pre-doctoral internship with the Florida State University Multidisciplinary Evaluation and Consulting Center (FSU MDC) where she received training in school-based assessment and consultation with multiple school districts in the predominantly rural Big Bend Region of Florida; the assessment of ASD, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD); and in the provision of child and adolescent therapy. Dr. Gibson then pursued at post-doctoral psychology residency with the FSU MDC where she continued to build expertise in the assessment of ASD, ADHD, and SLD; consultation with schools and families; and in the provision of child and adolescent therapy. During her post-doctoral residency, Dr. Gibson served as an adjunct professor and taught a master’s-level class pertaining to the assessment and diagnosis of ASD and ID for prospective special education teachers.
Dr. Gibson utilizes a collaborative approach to her work that values the insights of the child, their family, and their school community in developing evaluations, recommendations, and therapy. In her spare time, Dr. Gibson enjoys running while listening to a variety of podcasts, cooking meals with her spouse, Henry, and relaxing with her tuxedo cat, Clive, and her yellow labradoodle, Shaggy.
